Emerson Lake & Powell

Emerson Lake & Palmer was one of the best trio on prog scene which played a symphonic/classic rock during the '70s. The first three/four albums are masterpieces and they were exceptional musicians. But their ispiration, at the end of '70s, slowly was ending, their music was sliding in a commercial sound; Love Beach (issued in 1978) is a bad work. The drummer Carl Palmer was too busy with Asia project (a supergroup band but a big disappointment I think) so Emerson and Lake replaced him with Cozy Powell and with a last start of glory recorded in 1985 an album entitled Emerson Lake & Powell. This album by ELP (even if it wasn’t quite the right P!) found Emerson and Lake back to being inspired and coherent. The tracks are generally more commercial and less progressive than in their early days, and Powell’s drumming is of course more beat focused and much less instrumental than Palmer’s. In all this album was a welcome return to something approaching decent form.

Loved this album (and the tour-concert). It was cool to see such a hevy-duty drummer like Cozy Powell play all of that intricate EL&P material. Thank you!
