During the 70's, in Germany, side by side of krautrock and cosmic music was born a pretty and original jazz-rock with bands such as these Brainstorm, Passport, Embryo as well. Brainstrom was a fusion quintet from Baden-Baden whose influences range from Zappa, Soft Machine, Matching Mole and Gong. They once called themselves Fashion Pricks but got into a bit of trouble when they tried to sign a record deal, so they switched to Fashion Pink and then eventually became Brainstorm. Their first record was this Smile A While issued in 1972 with: Eddy van Overheidt / keyboards, vocals; - Rainer Bodensohn / flutes, bass; - Roland Schaffer / saxes, clarinet, bass, guitars; - Joe Koinzer / drums; - Harold Wagner / bass on 7, 8 and 9.
